Just a quick question, you say about the FTP “This is the absolute best method for mass video uploading especially when you have tons of videos with huge file sizes to upload”
Questions
1) If the site max video size is say 500mb will the FTP upload allow me to upload greater size for example 1000 mb? Reason is I want full length HD video online uploaded by the webmaster not users.
2) If not is there a maximum upload size for video, could I upload a 3 to 4 GB HD video.

1. Yes it will allow you to upload videos with any file size. There are no limits with FTP.
2. Yes you can upload videos 2-3gb in file sizes. Although this is not recommended as it will put pressure on your server when allot of users are watching. It's always best to split large videos.

YES FTP mass upload is only for admin and not members.
There are allot of good ftp program out their. I personally like Cuteftp

does it support multiple formats or just flv?

also i use a cron job for the encoding because it is too much load otherwise so i disabled automatic encode for normal upload.

will that be a problem or will the cron job take care of it?

and for the text file what filename is it looking for?

You can upload any video format, as long as your server encoders supports it. The FTP mass uploaded comes with it's own cron file that you need to run. So basically After videos are uploaded via FTP, you'll need to run the ftp cron file so uploaded files gets recorded in the database and processed. This is a separate cron file then what you currently run to encode and process videos.
